That a girl!
A Muslim woman by the name of Shaymaa Ismaa’eel, 24, is taking the internet by storm after smiling and posing in her hijab in front of a group of Islamophobic protesters in Washington, D.C. this past weekend.
“On April 21st I smiled in the face of bigotry and walked away feeling the greatest form of accomplishment,” Shaymaa wrote on her Twitter page.
“Kindness is a mark of faith. Those who aren’t kind have no faith” -Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him),” she captioned the same photo on Instagram.
Hundreds of Muslims gathered in the nation’s capital for the Islamic Circle of North America’s annual convention at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center. Shaymaa caught up with Guardian and told them, “I wanted them to see the smile on my face, and see how happy I was to be me and walk around being a Muslim woman. I wanted to show them that we are going to remain kind and unapologetic, and continue to spread love in the face of bigotry.”
