Johnny Weir Is Speaking Out Against The “Glamorization” Of Tonya Harding: “I Won’t Applaud Her”

With the release of the new film I, Tonya, an old scandal has been thrust into the spotlight: the 1994 attack on Nancy Kerrigan, in which she was beat with a police baton (suspected at the urging of competitor Tonya Harding) just one day before the U.S. National Figure Skating Championships.

Olympian ice skater Johnny Weir took to Twitter to speak out about those who are romanticizing Harding and the scandal, and offering up his support for Kerrigan!

“I am so over the glamorization of a villain simply because she was born on the “wrong side of the tracks.” While her upbringing may have been tragic, athletes come from all walks of life and succeed based on merit, not assault. I won’t applaud her and I stand for Nancy,” Weir wrote!

The 90s are back, baby!
