Colin, “you’re doing amazing, sweetie!”
Colin Kaepernick was honored Tuesday night at the Sports Illustrated Person of the Year event when he was presented with the Muhammad Ali Legacy Award.
And none other than Beyonce Knowles (looking SMASHING, might we add!) was on hand to present the prestigious award to the former NFL star. She was brought out as a surprise presenter by comedian Trevor Noah.
“Colin took action with no fear of consequence or repercussion, only hope to change the world for the better,” Bey said. “To change perception, to change the way we treat each other, especially people of color.”
During his acceptance speech, Kaepernick said he will be continuing Ali’s legacy of fighting social injustice, saying the late boxing legend “mentored me without ever meeting me. The footprints he leaves are large and his life is and has been a multitextured tapestry that is rich in love, wisdom, life lessons and human kindness. I can only hope that I’m taking steps toward walking on the footsteps that he has left behind for the world to follow.”
Be sure to check out the show in full when it airs on the NBC Sports network this Friday.
