It was the PHUCK UP heard ’round the world: the 2017 Academy Awards Best Picture announcement that left the world quite shocked!
Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway revealed that La La Land had won the Oscar award, when in fact Moonlight picked up the coveted award.
Now, the directors of the two acclaimed films are speaking out about the mix up.
“It’s messy, but it’s kind of gorgeous,” Moonlight director Barry Jenkins said in a new interview with Variety magazine. “You have these two groups of people who came together for a second. There’s a picture with me hugging Jordan [Horowitz – producer of La La Land] and Adele [Romanski – producer of Moonlight) has her arm on his shoulder. That’s what the moment was.”
“Everything looked so energized, I, at first thought there was some kind of prank going on,” La La Land director Damien Chazelle added.
